1996
From Fall of 1996 through Spring of 1998, I was enrolled full-time in the graduate program at the College of Design, North Carolina State University, earning my Master of Graphic Design degree and teaching.*

Upon graduation, I conducted my own freelance design business in Raleigh fuIl-time through February of 2000.

2000
Upon moving to Portland, Oregon in March of 2000, I began working for Fieldtrip, a small graphic design firm. My employment continued there until my move to Austin, Texas in April, 2004.

2004
In September, 2004 I began my working as an Art Director at nFusion in Austin, Texas.

In 2009 I was promoted to Associate Creative Director and managed nFusion’s creative efforts for several clients, including Brinker International (Chili’s, On the Border, and Maggianno’s restaurant chains), Nokia, Bj’s Brewhouse and McCoy’s Building Supply.

2010
From May, 2010 through the May 2014 I served as an Art and Creative Director for Tocquigny Advertising in Austin, creating and overseeing work for clients such as Teradata, GES Exhibition Design, Hitachi, ArthroCare, and Qualico Corporation.

2014—2018
From May 2014 through April 2018 I served as an Art Director/Creative Director for Harte Hanks here in Austin—leading creative efforts for the Time Warner Cable Business Class/Spectrum Enterprise and Worldpay accounts. The work included creating campaign concepts and collateral as well as sometimes managing a larger team of creatives when necessary.

My career in visual communication has been both deep and varied, giving me the ability to role up my sleeves and tackle hands-on any creative challenge that comes my way.

As an experienced leader, designer and teacher, I am equally adept at offering high-level direction to my creative team as well as facilitating strong collaborative efforts across departments — ultimately inspiring my team to produce the best possible work.

From high-level creative concepting, UX and wire framing functions all the way through pushing pixels in every possible creative way, I’ve proven myself as dependable go-to creative that knows how to produce great work under any circumstance.

1989
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Colorado State University, with concentrations in both graphic design and photography.

1998
Master of Graphic Design, North Carolina State University, College of Design.

From September through December of 1997, I instructed an undergraduate class at the College of Design, North Carolina State University. I returned to teach the same class during the fall semester of 1998.

In the Winter of 2002, I began teaching various graphic design classes on a part-time basis at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the Art Institute of Portland. I continued to serve as an active adjunct faculty member through Winter of 2004.

David has a combination of intelligence, talent and experience that makes him a particularly effective creative director. He is equally adept at mentoring a team and rolling up his sleeves and doing the work himself, and is a very strong designer. As his supervisor, I was treated to an almost constant flow of compliments from account service, from clients, and from other creatives — all thrilled at the experience of working with David, gushing at his creativity, his professionalism, and his dependability. No matter how challenging the account, he’s always able to forge strong working relationships and find a way to elevate the level of the creative product while exhibiting the patience of a saint. I can honestly say that Tocquigny would not have experienced the creative success it did during my tenure at the agency without David playing his very critical role.

Executive Creative Director, Mason Zimbler US

When I met Dave, he was quiet and looked friendly. But as I grew to know him as a colleague and a friend, I began to understand that behind his calm exterior lives an exceptionally gifted artist that basically blows me away with concepts. I can’t think of a single time that Dave has presented his work, and I’ve said, “that’s nice.” I’m always thoroughly impressed and delighted in the quality of work, as are the clients that pay well for it. In addition to being a kind, attentive mentor and a great listener, Dave is the kind of creative talent that can take the ever too mundane world of B2B technology and transform it into something exceptional and connective.

Marketing Strategy and Storytelling

I had the pleasure of working with Dave on multiple accounts at nFusion. Dave is a caring, collaborative and enthusiastic co-worker and overall a pleasure to work with. As a designer and creative director, he’s analytical, articulate and enthusiastic. He considers every angle of a project to ensure consistent, quality work for his clients.
